Tuesday October 9, 2007 - Lean Manufacturing at Black Bros. Co.

Mendota, IL – Since the introduction of “Lean” Manufacturing last year, Black Bros. has been embarking on continuous improvement within their company.  IMEC conducted BBCO
Associates through education, training and simulations that demonstrated Lean Principles, Value and Non Value added processes, Value Stream Mapping and team involvement. Every Associate was able to participate and offer input in these staged simulations. Senator Gary Dahl also
made a visit to Black’s to observe values and progress of Lean Manufacturing.

“Our Associates are using American ingenuity and reinventing Black Bros. process, thinking and culture to become a world class partner and supplier,” said Matt Carroll, President and CEO.

Lean Manufacturing can be defined as simply producing only what is needed, when it’s needed and in the quantity needed. It is eliminating waste and optimizing operations that add value from our customer’s point of view.  Our unique Lean mission is to grow Black Bros. into the future by being a lower cost, high quality manufacturer with the fastest delivery time to the marketplace, while providing a secure, rewarding and challenging work environment for each team member.  The Lean theory is a never ending process that is not the outcome of a one time effort, but the cumulative result of a designed and focused routine to strengthen the entire company.

“Black Bros. Lean values are being combined with our strategic planning, commitment and team involvement to achieve success. Our Associates take great pride in what they have accomplished,” said Skip Stachlewitz, Chief Operating Officer.
